Medi-Cal TAR system migration and planned outage Nov. 15-18

November 06, 2025

What You Need to Know: The Medi-Cal Treatment Authorization Request system will be offline from Saturday, November 15, through Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as DHCS migrates the system to a new platform.

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has announced that the Medi-Cal Treatment Authorization Request (TAR) system will be migrating to a new platform and a planned system outage will occur from Saturday, November 15, 2025, through Tuesday, November 18, 2025. During this time, the following services will be unavailable:

  • The TAR system, including electronic TAR (eTAR) submission
  • Submission of new eTARs by Medi-Cal providers
  • Processing of both paper and electronic TARs

DHCS anticipates the TAR system will be fully operational again on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. While the interface may appear slightly different, its functionality will remain the same.

Physicians are encouraged to take proactive steps before and during the migration window:

  • Submit Prior Authorization TARs early. TARs not processed before the outage will be addressed once the system is restored.
  • For urgent authorization needs, providers should call the Medi-Cal Telephone Service Center at (800) 541-5555 and be prepared to share relevant medical details during the call.

Practices with questions or that need assistance before, during, or after the migration should call (800) 541-5555.
