What You Need to Know: Governor Gavin Newsom has joined 14 other governors in launching the Governors Public Health Alliance, a new multistate coalition focused on improving coordination, data sharing and emergency preparedness across the nation. The Alliance aims to strengthen the capacity of state health agencies to respond quickly and consistently to emerging public health threats.
Governor Gavin Newsom this week announced that California will join 14 other states and territories in forming the Governors Public Health Alliance, a new forum for collaboration among state leaders and public health professionals. The Alliance will help states share information, align best practices, and ensure that health guidance remains rooted in science and evidence.
Participating states and territories include Washington, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Connecticut, Guam, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Colorado, Illinois, and North Carolina.
“Collaboration and transparency are essential to protecting the health of our communities,” said California Medical Association (CMA) President Shannon Udovic-Constant, M.D. “Communicable diseases don’t respect state boundaries – and neither should our responses to them. This alliance reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that public health decisions are guided by science, coordinated across states, and focused on keeping patients safe.”
The Alliance builds on existing regional efforts such as the West Coast Health Alliance.
CMA: Standing firm for science and public trust
CMA has long championed public health policies grounded in scientific evidence and will continue advocating for policies that safeguard patients, protect communities and restore confidence in the public health system. We remain focused on ensuring that proven, life-saving medications remain available for all Californians.
