Last Chance: Apply for GME Funding through CalMedForce; application deadline is Oct. 8

October 02, 2025

What You Need to Know: The deadline to apply for the 2025–26 CalMedForce and CalMedForce+ grant cycle is October 8, 2025, at 7 p.m. With up to $98 million in funding in this cycle, support is available for residency programs and fellowships in both primary and specialty care. Programs may apply for new and expanding positions (and for primary care, existing positions as well).

Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC), in partnership with the University of California (UC), would like to remind you that the FY 2025–26 application cycle for CalMedForce and CalMedForce+ is open, and the deadline to submit your application is right around the corner is October 8, 2025.

This year, thanks to new funding from Proposition 35, eligibility has expanded to include other high-need specialties , plus more funding for primary care programs (family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and emergency medicine) historically funded through Proposition 56. Residency and fellowship programs may apply for funding to support new, existing, or expanding positions (depending on specialty).

How It Works:

  • CalMedForce (Prop 56, 2016): Supports primary care and emergency medicine programs.
  • CalMedForce+ (Prop 35, 2024): Supports primary care, specialty, and fellowship programs, with a focus on new and expanding programs.
  • Submit one application to be considered for both.

Support Available

  • Office Hours: Friday, Oct 3 – drop in with questions.
  • Book a Consultation: Need Application Assistance? Schedule a 1-on-1 with our CalMedForce staff.
