Physician Leadership Physician Workforce
The California Medical Association foundation—Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC)— recently hosted the inaugural GME Leadership Summit.
The virtual summit—developed by PHC’s GME Startup Solutions program—gathered graduate medical education (GME) experts, champions and learners to discuss best practices and develop innovative solutions for bolstering the health care workforce and addressing California's physician shortage.
This summit was ideal for physician workforce development leaders and those looking to start new GME programs, as well as newly designated institutional officials, program directors and program coordinators.
GME is a critical workforce development strategy in addressing California's physician shortages. We hope that the experiences and insights from the summit will inspire GME champions in their journey to impact access care by addressing physician workforce shortages, especially in medically underserved areas and specialties.
The summit sessions are now available for on-demand playback.
GME Leadership Association
Because peer support and sharing of best practices is also critical for sustaining GME champions in the GME building journey, PHC is putting together a statewide GME Leadership Association. If you are interested in learning more, email GMEStartups@phcdocs.org.
GME Startup Solutions was launched in December 2020 and is focused on providing resources, events and programs that help California communities grow medical residency and graduate medical education programs in underserved areas and for the most needed specialties.
