In 2020, the California Medical Association (CMA) twice surveyed physicians to see how the financial health of their practices was being affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency. In the first survey done in April 2020, CMA found that 95% of physician practices were worried about their financial health due to the impacts of the pandemic.
In a follow-up survey in October 2020, results showed that while there was some improvement, 87% of physician practices were still worried about their financial health. The October survey also confirmed that patient volume had not returned to normal levels.
Now, over 18 months into the pandemic, CMA is launching another survey to reevaluate physician practices' financial health.
