Dignity Health and Anthem reach new agreement

August 18, 2021

After initially failing to reach an agreement, Dignity Health California and Anthem Blue Cross have reached a new contract agreement that is retroactive to July 15, 2021.  According to the Dignity Health website, care received at a Dignity facility since the date the initial contract lapsed on July 15, 2021, will still be considered in-network avoiding potential higher out-of-network costs for patients. According to Anthem Blue Cross, it is in the process of reinstating all Dignity Health providers and facilities in its system over the next 30-days.

Also resolved with the contract renewal between the two parties is the participation status of the 2,000 Anthem Prudent Buyer physicians, who as a condition of their contracts, were terminated for failure to maintain admitting privileges at an in-network hospital during the Dignity Health and Anthem termination. Anthem has advised that it will be sending notification to those terminated providers indicating that Anthem and Dignity Health have reached an agreement and that the provider will be reinstated to full participation status retroactive to July 15.

More details about the impact and timeline of the termination and new agreement can be found on the Dignity Health or Anthem Blue Cross websites.

Physicians who have additional questions can contact Dignity Health at (800) 483-1568.

Physicians can also contact their Anthem Blue Cross Contract Support-Provider Experience representative as indicated on the Anthem provider website.
