August 12, 2014
Area(s) of Interest: Physician Leadership Professional Development & Education

Please join us for the 2014 Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations (NEPO) Summit September 19-21 at the Riverside Convention Center. This year’s summit will feature two California physician innovators, South Central Los Angeles internist and pediatrician, Rishi Manchanda, M.D., M.P.H, and  Sandra R. Hernández, M.D., president and CEO of the California HealthCare Foundation.

Dr. Manchanda is the current director of Social Medicine and Health Equity at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center. His first book “The Upstream Doctors,” in which he coined the term "upstreamists" to describe an essential yet underdeveloped segment of the health care workforce, was released by TEDBooks in June 2013. He serves as the medical director of a clinic for high-utilizer homeless veterans in Los Angeles. Dr. Manchanda is the founder of RxDemocracy, a nonpartisan health care coalition that supports civic engagement.

Dr. Hernández became president and CEO of the California HealthCare Foundation in January 2014. CHCF is an independent foundation with assets of more than $700 million and is dedicated to improving the health of the people of California. Dr. Hernández was also CEO of The San Francisco Foundation for 16 years. She previously served as director of public health for the City and County of San Francisco.

The NEPO Summit is an opportunity for physicians, public health professionals and community leaders who work with underserved communities to learn about emerging health care policy issues, share best practices on how to reduce health disparities and increase access to health care services for the populations they serve

As in previous years, CME will be offered and the agenda will include a thought-provoking array of plenary sessions and workshops. For more information, click here.
