The editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle has taken a position of “NO” on Proposition 46, stating “voters should reject this flawed measure.”

In opposing Prop. 46, the Chronicle joins every other major daily newspaper in California to take a position on Proposition 46 to date – Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, Sacramento Bee and San Jose Mercury News.

Headlined “Poorly crafted state Proposition 46 puts doctors on defense,” the editorial states that proponents “who put together and funded Proposition 46 might have been too clever for their own good” and “this measure overreached in a decidedly cynical way.”

Moreover, “proponents have openly admitted that the provision for random alcohol and drug testing of doctors was added as a political sweetener.”

Also, “voters who might be tempted to support substance-abuse testing on doctors…should look at the details of how Proposition 46 works. It’s incomplete and, in some important ways, misdirected.”
