CMS holds training on how to dispute disclosures of the Sunshine Act

Area(s) of Interest: Practice Management Professional Development & Education

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will hold a free webinar on July 22, 2014, to help physicians register, review and if necessary, dispute disclosures under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act.

CMS opened the review process on July 14 and  physicians have 45 days from that date to review and dispute their data (plus an additional 15 days to resolve disputes). The review and dispute process ends August 27, 2014. The information will be published publicly on September 30, 2014.

Under the Sunshine Act, drug and medical device manufacturers are required to report their financial interactions with licensed physicians – including consulting fees, travel reimbursements, research grants and other gifts. Any payments, ownership interests and other “transfers of value” will be reported to CMS for publication in an online database.

During the webinar, CMS experts will give a brief introductory presentation about Open Payments and provide a step-by-step review of the registration and review and dispute process. This overview will be followed by answers to questions submitted prior to the call and an opportunity for participants to interact with our subject matter experts during a live question and answer session.
