The 154th Annual Session of the California Medical Association (CMA) House of Delegates (HOD) will convene October 18-19, 2025, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. As you plan your participation in the meeting, your Speakers request that you carefully review the following information.

TAKE ACTION: Hotel Accommodations

CMA has secured a block of guest rooms reserved at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles at a special rate. Delegates are strongly advised to book early, sincRegistration will open in the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 17. We highly suggest checking in at Registration in advance of the inevitable rush on Saturday morning. All members must check in to be counted for quorum and for Delegates to be eligible to vote. Sessions of this year's House are tentatively scheduled as follows:e the room block is limited and the discounted rate may no longer be offered after the block has been filled. Click here to book now.

TAKE ACTION: Childcare

Thanks to The Doctors Company (TDC) for their help making childcare more accessible at this year’s House of Delegates! Through TDC’s sponsorship, CMA has partnered with ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements, Inc., to offer subsidized half-day, full-day, and evening childcare services on Saturday and Sunday, October 18–19. This includes an evening option during the Gala. Parents remain responsible for breakfast and lunch; snacks will be provided. Advance reservations are required, as space is limited.

New (and Returning) Delegate Orientation

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6-7 p.m., your Speakers will host a virtual Delegate Orientation. They will review CMA's organizational structure and governance, with emphasis on the HOD: what it is and how it fits in, how it functions, and how to participate effectively as a Delegate or Alternate at HOD. Register now.

HOD Schedule

Registration will open in the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 17. We highly suggest checking in at Registration in advance of the inevitable rush on Saturday morning. All members must check in to be counted for quorum and for Delegates to be eligible to vote. Sessions of this year's House are tentatively scheduled as follows:

  • Session 1: Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Session 2: Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Session 3: Sunday, Oct. 19, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Session 4: Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

In addition to conducting various elections, hearing from leaders in organized medicine, honoring members with awards and other business (including three Bylaws reports), the weekend will consist of education and debate on our major issue (Responding to Federal Funding Cuts and Other Attacks on Health Care, Public Health and Medicine), spread across four general sessions of the House. We hope to adjourn no later than 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Materials and Engagement: Major Issues Report Now Available

Actionable business items must be posted online no later that 30-days in advance of the House of Delegates. However, the Councils have managed to have the Major Issue first draft report ahead of that 30-day window so members can have as much time possible to review materials. The first draft major issue report is now posted. Testimony period for the first draft major issue report is September 9-23.

We will post items as they become available on the HOD website and will send a timely announcement. Generally, members can expect to be able to engage with the reports early through the following process:

  • Initial Reports Posted Online: A comment and testimony period will open immediately upon posting. Upon close of the comment period, input shared during this period will be given to the Councils that generated each report. Testimony will be open from September 9th - 23rd.
  • Councils Meet to Consider Input and Revise Reports: Councils will be able to modify their report based on member input.
  • Revised Reports Posted Online: These revised reports become the official “business of the House,” to be acted upon during Annual Session. A second testimony period will open briefly for members to share their thoughts with other members of the House in advance of the meeting. Reports will be posted on October 8.
  • Extractions and Amendments Portal Opens: Members may extract items from the reports in advance of the meeting. The reports are treated like a "consent calendar," where members must extract the individual recommendations they wish to debate or amend. The extraction and amendment portal will be open October 8th - 15th.

A sample template is available if needed. Thank you for your assistance in honoring our dedicated CMA member physicians.
