As a continuing medical education provider (CME) provider, you play a vital role in the education and training continuum for physicians. We know that many of you also work with your organization’s graduate medical education (GME) programs. The California Medical Association is excited to announce new funding opportunities are now available from our philanthropic subsidiary, Physicians for a Healthy California, in partnership with the University of California.
Applications are now open for the 2025–26 CalMedForce and CalMedForce+ grant cycle. With up to $98 million in funding in this cycle, support is available for residency programs and fellowships in both primary and specialty care.
We encourage all CME providers with organizations that are connected with a GME program – or considering developing one – to share this opportunity with leadership and discuss how CME and GME efforts can align to strengthen clinical learning environments, expand physician training capacity and ultimately improve patient care.
This year, thanks to new funding from Prop 35, CalMedForce funding eligibility has expanded to include other high-need specialties, in addition to more funding for primary care programs (family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and emergency medicine) historically funded through Prop 56. Residency and fellowship programs may apply for funding to support new, existing, or expanding positions (depending on specialty).
