Former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra to deliver closing keynote at Health Equity Summit

June 25, 2025

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra will deliver the closing keynote at PHC’s 2025 Health Equity Leadership Summit, July 10–11 in Pasadena. Becerra will speak to the national retreat from equity and what it means for California's most vulnerable communities. Registration is still open at phcdocs.org/health-equity.

Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC)—the charitable arm of the California Medical Association—is honored to welcome former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra as the closing keynote speaker at its 2025 Health Equity Leadership Summit, Jully 10-11 in Pasadena.

With over 20 years of legislative experience in Congress, leadership as California’s Attorney General, and service as the first Latino HHS Secretary under the Biden administration, Xavier Becerra brings a powerful and deeply personal perspective to the Summit. Raised in a working-class Sacramento family, Becerra has long advocated for lowering prescription drug costs, safeguarding patients with preexisting conditions, and expanding coverage for low-income, immigrant, and marginalized communities.

In his keynote address, Becerra will reflect on the troubling “national retreat from equity,” explore what’s at stake for California’s most vulnerable populations, and share a compelling vision for where health equity efforts must go next.

There’s Still Time to Register!

The Health Equity Leadership Summit is a two-day event that brings people together around a shared vision for equity. Through trainings, keynote talks and panel discussions, attendees will engage with a community working to advancing meaningful change in health care.

Join health care leaders from across California for two days of candid conversations, practical strategies, and inspiring stories of progress—even in the face of rollbacks at the federal and state levels.
