Did you know that you need to keep any disclosure information, such as financial relationships or commercial support that you present to learners separate from any marketing for ineligible companies? Standard 5: Manage Ancillary Activities Offered in Conjunction with Accredited Continuing Education ensures that education is separate from marketing by companies – including advertising, sales, exhibits, and promotion, as well as nonaccredited continuing medical education (CME) offered in conjunction with accredited CME. The California Medical Association regards disclosure information as a part of accredited education. Think of the disclosures you provide learners just like you do any other educational content.

Accreditation tip: Don’t place your disclosures on the same program book, agenda or exhibit materials where you include any marketing for ineligible companies.

Additionally, regardless of whether or not your CME program accepts ancillary activities in conjunction with accredited CME, educational materials that are part of accredited education must not contain any marketing produced by or for an ineligible company, including corporate or product logos, trade names or product group messages.

Educational materials include slides, abstracts, handouts, evaluation mechanisms or disclosure information.
