What You Need to Know: TriWest will take over the TRICARE contract effective Jan. 1, 2025. In preparation, CMA worked with TriWest to create a transition guide that answers commonly asked physician questions.
On January 1, 2025, TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) will begin providing managed care services to TRICARE beneficiaries in the 26-state western region, including California. TriWest will be taking over the contract previously held by Health Net Federal Services (HNFS).
In preparation for the transition, TriWest began accepting interest forms from physicians wishing to join the TriWest network in February 2024. In June 2024, TriWest began its outreach to physicians currently contracted with TriWest or who had submitted interest forms, providing more information regarding participation and contractual terms. While TriWest has signaled that it is in the final stages of its network development, it continues to expand its provider network in areas of geographic and specialty need, focusing on providing a seamless transition and continuity of physician for its assigned TRICARE patients. The TriWest West Region provider directory is now available at tricare.mil/west.
TriWest will utilize the Availity.com platform as its secure provider portal allowing physicians to:
- Submit claims and check claims status
- Access authorizations
- Manage demographic information (such as practice address and phone number)
- Find tools and resources like the Provider Handbook, Quick Reference Guides and more
- Take training on TRICARE processes and procedures
Physicians with questions regarding the TRICARE transition should contact TriWest at providerservices@triwest.com or (866) 690-0885.
