Learner credit reporting – meet the challenge

March 15, 2024

Recently, the California Medical Association (CMA) issued a challenge to our continuing medical education (CME) professionals to compete for a seat at the CMA Annual CME Provider Conference or the Accreditation Workshop. What was this challenge that could allow you win this coveted award? Learner credit reporting!

Any CMA-accredited organization that enters individual learners into four or more activities from October 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024, will be entered into a drawing for registration at either the Accreditation Workshop or CME Provider Conference. Currently we have 32 organizations in the drawing, with 25 more who need to enter learners for three or fewer activities to quality.

Review the many resources available to help you enter learners into the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS):

Improvements have been made to PARS that offer you the ability to not only enter activity data, but also record individual physician learner credit data in the same system. Reporting learner credit data in PARS is not required, but it is an opportunity made available to all accredited providers so that we can create a digitized approach to reporting and managing learner credit data.

By entering activity and learner credit data in PARS, you can:

  • Increase the visibility of your CME activities and reach a wider audience of learners.
  • Reinforce the value of your activities to learners and other stakeholders.
  • Decrease physicians’ reporting burden, giving them more time to focus on patient care.
  • Reduce your workload of responding to queries and certificate requests from physicians.
  • Support regulatory authorities by providing easier access to verified CME and Maintenance of Certification (MOC)/Continuous Certification (CC) credit data. Learner credit data entered in PARS will be reported to the participating state medical licensing boards and certifying boards in collaboration with the ACCME, eliminating the need for physicians to track and submit their credits to these boards manually.

CMA is proud that 33% of our organizations are currently reporting learner credit. Get started today. If you have any questions or want a little extra training, reach out to CMA at cme@cmadocs.org.
