UCLA study finds dual eligibles confused and concerned about the transition to managed care

September 19, 2023

California practices that participated in an Aledade Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in 2022 earned $31 million in shared savings.

The California Medical Association (CMA) has partnered with Aledade the largest network of independent primary care in the country, to help independent practices, health centers and clinics deliver better care to their patients and thrive in value-based care. Data has shown that value-based care—a form of reimbursement that ties payments to quality performance, patient outcomes and appropriate reductions in spending — lowers health care costs while improving patient outcomes. Aledade is a top-rated company for ACO enablement with a proven record of helping primary care practices achieve financial success in their physician-led ACOs.

"Aledade California is honored to work with independent practices and community health centers across the state, supporting their migration from fee-for-service towards value-based care,” said Gavin White, Aledade Market President for California. “We are thrilled to be able to provide more than $31 million dollars directly to practices for our work in 2022, funding that supports staffing and expanding their mission of serving all of their patients with high quality primary care."

“CMA and Aledade partnered in 2019 because of our shared vision of bringing world-class solutions and support to primary care practices and health centers in California,” said CMA Physician Services CEO David Ford. “These shared savings numbers show that, five years later, that shared vision is working.”

The $31 million was earned through the Medicare Shared Savings Program, which provides shared savings to ACOs that agree to be held accountable for the quality, cost and experience of care of an assigned Medicare fee-for-service beneficiary population.

In addition to the opportunity to participate in shared savings, joining an Aledade ACO can offer the following services and benefits to practices:

  • Access to Aledade’s proprietary population health platform, data analytics, guided workflows and health care policy expertise
  • Direct practice support from CMA Physician Services
  • Opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues and payors in your region

While the deadline for joining an Aledade ACO for the 2024 Medicare Shared Savings Program performance year has passed, Aledade can enroll practices at any time. Practices who sign up now can get nearly an entire year of free support ramping up to the next performance year and may be eligible for value-based contracts with other payors, including Medicare Advantage. Aledade will also work with practices on other steps they can take that provide immediate improvements to cash flow.
