You’re Invited! Unconscious Bias in Healthcare: Policy, Practice and the State of the Science Symposium

September 21, 2022

Join health equity experts, researchers and change agents for a day of focused discussion and problem-solving around how to effectively mitigate unconscious bias in health care settings at our first Unconscious Bias in Healthcare Symposium, on October 14, 2022. The insights and strategies explored during this one-day event will inform evidence-based recommendations and a framework to guide the development and implementation of effective, measurable unconscious bias mitigation strategies.

This event is presented by Sutter Health’s Institute for Advancing Health Equity, in partnership with the California Medical Association, Physicians for a Healthy California, and the California Primary Care Association.

The symposium will be live streamed for virtual participation, and will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m on Friday, October 14, 2022. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

We will hear from clinicians, policymakers, scientists and community leaders who will share their insights and discuss the current state of unconscious bias mitigation strategies. We will also discuss how we might move the field forward and help healthcare providers move closer to achieving the intended result – improved and equitable outcomes for patients. We will review the harmful impact of unconscious bias, look at policies that have been introduced and enacted, and explore how unconscious bias mitigation strategies can be evaluated for effectiveness. The symposium will also highlight novel approaches and innovations like using virtual reality in immersive learning interventions.
