On December 21, 2020, the 116th Congress adopted a massive $1.4 trillion omnibus spending package and a $900 billion COVID-19 relief package.  The legislation includes:

  • $3 billion in additional funding to the COVID Provider Relief Fund
  • $284 billion to the Paycheck Protection Program for physician employers, which allows physicians to deduct expenses associated with these loans
  • Changes to the Medicare physician fee schedule that mitigated the proposed cuts for almost every physician specialty
  • An extension for several important health care programs
  • 1,000 new graduate medical education residency training programs
  • A surprise medical billing agreement that will finally protect patients from surprise bills while ensuring a more balanced process for insurers and physicians to resolve disputes
