Area(s) of Interest: Public Health

On July 1, 2018, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) launched the California Parkinson’s Disease Registry, a statewide population-based registry that is used to measure the incidence and prevalence of Parkinson's disease.

MDs, DOs, PAs, and NPs who diagnose or treat Parkinson’s disease patients are required to report. The next deadline for data submission is March 30, 2020, for cases encountered during the fourth quarter of 2019 (October 1 - December 31, 2019).

CDPH has recently revised its California Parkinson’s Disease Registry Implementation Guide, available at cdph.ca.gov/parkinsons. The guide provides information for reporting Parkinson’s disease data, outlines who is required to report, the timeline for reporting, and the manual and electronic methods for transmitting data to the California Parkinson’s Disease Registry.

The recent updates to the guide include data submission deadlines for 2020 and clarifications to the onboarding process based on feedback received over the past year.

The data collected will be used to measure the incidence and prevalence of Parkinson’s disease. California’s large and diverse population makes it ideal for expanding the understanding of this disease to improve the lives of Parkinson’s patients.
