CMA mourns the loss of former president Jack McCleary, M.D.

Former California Medical Association (CMA) President Jack McCleary, M.D., has passed away at the age of 91. Dr. McCleary was a dermatologist who helped thousands of patients over his more than 60 years in practice serving the Sherman Oaks community and was respected and beloved by patients and peers. Dr. McCleary was a member of CMA and Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) for more than 50 years. He was president of CMA in 1996, and served as LACMA president in the mid-1980s.

Born in Adel, Iowa, Dr. McCleary received his medical degree from Stanford University. He first joined CMA in 1957 when he came to the San Fernando Valley from the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

In 1998, Dr. McCleary received the. J.E. Wallace Sterling Lifetime Achievement Award from the Stanford Medical Alumni Association. This award is presented annually to a Stanford University School of Medicine graduate in recognition of an exceptional lifetime achievement in medicine.

Dr. McCleary and his wife of 68 years, Marian Bollier McCleary, were residents of Hidden Hills. They are survived by their three daughters, Kimberly McCleary Blue, Carol McCleary and Robin McCleary, and their four grandchildren.
