Physicians can now log in to the Medicare Quality Payment Program (QPP) website to view their final 2017 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)performance scores and payment adjustment information for the 2019 payment year.

It is important to note the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will not be sending out letters this year, so physicians are encouraged to log into the QPP website to learn about any payment adjustmentsthey will receive in 2019.

Physicians should be aware that the MIPS payment adjustment is required to be budget neutral. That means that payments will vary based on the number of participating clinicians in any given year. With over 91 percent of eligible clinicians participating in MIPS in 2017, the distribution of incentive payments was spread across many more people, which may result in a lower adjustment than practices may have anticipated.

Physicians, physician groups and accountable care organizations (and their authorized representatives) can access their performance feedback by logging into qpp.cms.gov with the same EIDM credentials used to submit and view their data during the submission period.

Advanced payment model (APM) entities with MIPS eligible clinicians scored under the APM scoring standard will not be able to access their MIPS performance feedback at qpp.cms.gov. Final MIPS performance feedback for these entities will be distributed by the specific APM team to APM entities.

If you believe an error was made in the calculation of your 2019 MIPS payment adjustment, you can request a targeted review from CMS via your EIDM account on the QPP website. Targeted reviews can be submitted until October 1, 2018.

CMS has posted the 2017 Performance Feedback User Guide on CMS.gov to help eligible clinicians and groups understand their 2017 MIPS performance feedback.

CMS will also be hosting two “office hours” sessions over the next few weeks to:

  • Provide a brief overview of MIPS 2017 performance feedback and targeted review
  • Answer some frequently asked questions
  • Highlight helpful resources available

To register for one of the upcoming sessions, use the links below. Space is limited so register today to secure your spot.

CMS encourages physicians to to email their questions in advance to ensure they are addressed. Questions can be submitted to CMSQualityTeam@ketchum.com.
