The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recently launched an online portal for public health reporting called the CDPH Health Information Exchange (HIE) Gateway. The goal of the gateway is to improve upon data exchange, analysis and reporting capabilities, while helping hospitals and health care professionals meet the public health reporting objectives under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services electronic health record (EHR) "meaningful use" incentive program.

The gateway launched in October 2013 with the California Immunization Registries (CAIR) and the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange (CalREDIE). CDPH announced this week that the gateway had been expanded to include the California Cancer Registry (CCR).

Hospitals and providers participating in stage 2 of the meaningful use program will now need to use this portal to register and submit the following data to CDPH:

  • Immunization information (for the seven CAIR regions: Northern Cal, Greater Sac, Bay Area, Central Valley, Central Coast, LA-Orange, Inland Empire)
  • Lab reporting of infectious disease testing (CalREDIE)
  • Cancer case reporting (CCR)

In future phases, the CDPH HIE Gateway will be expanded to include other CDPH electronic reporting systems, including the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.

To access the gateway and begin the registration process, visit http://hie.cdph.ca.gov.
