Area(s) of Interest: Advocacy Public Health

Nearly 17,000 California children get hooked on tobacco every year, and about one-third of them will eventually die from tobacco-related illnesses. The California Medical Association (CMA) is a proud supporter of Proposition 56, which will increase California's cigarette tax by $2 per pack, with an equivalent increase on other tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. The measure will save countless lives by preventing children from getting addicted to tobacco, and generate revenue to improve health care and fight tobacco-related illnesses.

To be successful in our fight against Big Tobacco, we need your help to get the message out about this important ballot measure. All CMA members are invited to attend a Prop. 56 message training webinar this Wednesday, July 27, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

Tobacco is the #1 cause of preventable death in California, costing taxpayers billions each year. Now Big Tobacco is hooking kids into a lifetime of addiction with e-cigarettes. It’s up to all of us to prevent this predatory behavior and prevent kids from smoking.

This webinar will present an overview of Prop. 56 and educate participants on the campaign’s key messages so that the voices of physicians are unified in the months leading up to the election.

This webinar will help ensure your tobacco tax talks are resonating with your audience — be it patients, family members or friends.

This webinar is free to CMA members.
