Anthem Blue Cross to offer webinar on 2018 Covered California participation

Area(s) of Interest: Commercial Payors Professional Development & Education

On December 13, from 2 to 3 p.m., PST, Anthem Blue Cross will offer an hour-long webinar detailing changes to its participation in Covered California for 2018. As the California Medical Association previously reported, Anthem will exit California’s exchange marketplace in all but three regions for 2018. Citing market instability and changes to federal rules and guidance, Anthem will now only offer an EPO plan in the following regions.

  • Region 1: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne and Yuba counties

  • Region 7: Santa Clara County

  • Region 10: Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tulare counties

The impact of Anthem’s exit from the exchange is significant, requiring over 150,000 Covered California enrollees to select a new plan or face auto-enrollment in an alternative health plan during the 2018 Covered California open enrollment period ending January 31, 2018.
