January 27, 2020
Area(s) of Interest: Advocacy

While some believe that the 2020 election politics, Presidential impeachment, and escalating tensions with Iran will scuttle Congress’ ability to legislate, there are a number of important health care issues that will be before lawmakers this year. Among these issues are two bipartisan health care issues extremely important to voters - surprise medical bills and skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs - that might rise above the fray and move to the President’s desk. Learn more about these and other federal health care issues the California Medical Association (CMA) will be working on this year in our Federal Advocacy Update: What to Expect in 2020.

Highlights include:

  1. Stoping the proposed Medicaid funding  cuts
  2. Allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices
  3. Passing CMA-sponsored bills:
    • A balanced solution to surprise medical bills
    • Prior authorization reform
    • California physician student loan forgiveness fix
    • 2% Medicare payment update and MACRA regulatory relief
