Compliance corner: ACCME changes in 2022

October 31, 2022
Area(s) of Interest: Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) made several changes this year. In addition to the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Medical Education, has been the change from numbered accreditation criteria to a more descriptive criteria nomenclature. In 2022 you have seen a hybrid with the name of the criteria followed by its former criterion number. An example of this is: Educational Needs (formerly Criterion 2). Beginning in 2023 you will no longer see the former criterion number.

To help with this transition, the resource New Standards and Criteria Naming Conversion Table may be helpful to cross-walk the Core Criteria, Standards for Integrity and Independence, and Commendation Criteria.

Please reach out to CMA with any questions at cme@cmadocs.org. We are always happy to help.
