Biden administration expands access to at-home COVID tests

January 19, 2022

The website for Americans to order free home COVID tests officially launched today after the site went live in a limited “beta phase” on Tuesday morning, according to White House officials. At covidtests.gov, rapid antigen home tests can now be ordered at no cost, with a maximum of four free tests per residential address. Tests are expected to begin shipping in late January.

As of January 15, 2022, health insurance companies are also now required to reimburse their insured for up to eight at-home covid tests per month at up to $12 per test. PCR tests and rapid tests ordered or administered by a health provider must continue to be fully covered by insurance with no limit.
