Physician refugees can seek expedited licensure from the Medical Board of California

February 09, 2021

Effective January 1, 2021, refugees, asylum seekers and holders of special immigrant visas may now seek expedited licensure from the Medical Board of California.

In order to have their application expedited, individuals must provide evidence of their refugee, asylee, or special immigrant visa status when submitting their application. Please note that this does not mean a license/registration must be issued, but simply that the process will be expedited.

More information, including examples of acceptable documentation, is available on the California Department of Consumer Affairs website.
