Area(s) of Interest: Advocacy

California Medical Association President Peter N. Bretan, Jr., M.D., issued the following statement in response to the appointment of California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to the U.S. Senate:

On behalf of the nearly 50,000 members of the California Medical Association, I want to congratulate Alex Padilla on being named the next U.S. Senator for California. While in the legislature, Secretary Padilla was a champion for expanding health care access, particularly to low-income and underserved communities. He also was a leader in the fight to protect children and others from the dangers of tobacco products and played an important role in the state’s efforts to curb the predatory tactics of tobacco companies. Secretary Padilla will be a great advocate for our state in Washington, D.C., and we look forward to continuing to work with him to expand access to quality health care for all Americans.
