CMS releases new video that provides overview of Medicare telehealth flexibilities

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a video, “Medicare Coverage and Payment of Virtual Services,” which provides an overview of services that can be provided to Medicare patients via telehealth under the 1135 waiver authority and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act. It also provides answers to common questions about the Medicare telehealth benefit.

California’s Medicare contractor, Noridian, has also scheduled webinars to give official instructions on billing for telehealth and virtual services. The webinars will be repeated often over the next few weeks and will cover the following topics:

  • Telehealth Information
  • Waiver Changes
  • Eligible Providers
  • Service listing
  • Virtual Visits
  • E-Visits
  • Resources

The current schedule is below. All times are Pacific time.

  • April 9, 2020 at 9 a.m.
  • April 9, 2020 at 1 p.m.
  • April 14, 2020 at 9 a.m.
  • April 15, 2020 at 1 p.m.
  • April 16, 2020 at 11 a.m.

  • April 21, 2020 at 12 p.m.
  • April 22, 2020 at 3 p.m.
