UnitedHealthcare to launch dual special needs plans in several counties

December 11, 2019

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of California recently announced the launch of its new Medicare Advantage plan, UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete® (HMO D-SNP), in Alameda, Fresno, Kings and Madera counties beginning January 1, 2020. The new plan—a dual special needs plan offering coverage to individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid—provides benefits beyond original Medicare, including dental coverage in Alameda County and transportation to medical appointments and routine vision exams in Fresno, Kings and Madera counties

In October, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Community Plan notified all participating network providers that it will begin serving eligible members who enroll in the UHC Dual Complete plan effective January 1, 2020. UHC advises that additional reminder notifications will be sent to providers in December and after the launch date in January.

In August 2018, UHC Community Plan issued unilateral contract amendments to select UnitedHealthcare (UHC) contracted physicians in seven counties, including Alameda, Fresno, Kings and Madera counties, building its provider network and preparing to increase its presence in the Medi-Cal and Medicare Advantage marketplace. Physicians who were not previously contracted for the UHC Medicare Advantage product received a combined contract amendment for participation in both UHC Community Plan of California (Medi-Cal) and UHC Medicare Advantage products. Under the terms of the amendment, physicians were automatically opted into the Medicare Advantage network and/or Community Plan network unless a written request to opt out was submitted to UHC Community Plan within 45 days of receipt of the amendment.

More information regarding UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete® can be found on the UHCprovider.com website including the following specific to each county:
