In California, more than one third of the state's population receives health care through the state’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal. The numerous requirements of the Medi-Cal system can prove challenging for physicians and create barriers to care for Medi-Cal patients.
To help physicians better understand their rights and obligations as a Medi-Cal provider as well as the rights of patients enrolled in Med-Cal, CMA published health law library document #7211, "Providing Care to Medi-Cal Enrollees." The document provides an overview of the Medi-Cal delivery system for physicians who participate or who are considering participating. It addresses issues that frequently arise in the course of providing care to Medi-Cal enrollees, including navigating the various managed care delivery models, physician credentialing, the scope of Medi-Cal coverage and Medi-Cal claims payment.
CMA health law library documents are available free to members. Nonmembers can purchase documents for $2 per page.
