CMA Foundation and NEPO provide Hepatitis C screenings at Crenshaw HealthFest

July 14, 2015

The California Medical Association (CMA) Foundation and its Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations (NEPO) were proud to partner with Assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas this past weekend as co-sponsors of the first annual Crenshaw HealthFest in Los Angeles. The HealthFest took place on Saturday, July 11, at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.

Featuring over 25 community organizations, the HealthFest provided health education and free health services to hundreds of attendees from the Los Angeles area. Some of the fun-filled activities included free health screenings, informational booths featuring games, fitness and nutrition classes, and a raffle.

The CMA Foundation, NEPO and MedicoRx joined together to provide community education on the importance of adult vaccines and to conduct free Hepatitis C screenings on nearly 50 adults.

A few other highlights from the day:

  • Cedars-Sinai Medical Center provided blood pressure screenings (70 children reached), dental hygiene education (250 children reached) and a blood drive (over 30 blood donations received).
  • Vision to Learn performed over 30 eye exams and provided each child in need of eye glasses with a free pair.
  • T.H.E. Health and Wellness Centers educated over 200 attendees and conducted over 80 medical screenings.
