California health care workers must be fully vaccinated by Sept. 30

Area(s) of Interest: Public Health

California health care workers have until September 30, 2021, to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 , under a new order issued on August 5, 2021, by Tomás J. Aragón, M.D., the state’s public health officer.

The new requirement tightens the earlier announcement made by Gov. Gavin Newsom in late July that health care workers and state employees must be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing.

Between now and then September 30 deadline, employees of hospitals, nursing homes, physician offices, clinics and other medical facilities must either be vaccinated or undergo mandatory weekly testing, under Gov. Newsom’s previous order issued.

The California Medical Association is reviewing this new information and will continue to provide updates on these guidelines. For any additional questions, please contact our Member Resource Center at (800) 786-4262 or memberservice@cmadocs.org.
