The 2021 application cycle for the CalHealthCares loan repayment program is now open. The program—which aims to increase access to care for California’s 13 million Medi-Cal patients—awards loan repayment grants of up to $300,000 in loan repayments to encourage and incentivize physicians to provide care to Medi-Cal beneficiaries. The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has contracted with Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) to administer this program.
Physician awardees receive loan repayments of up to $300,000 in exchange for a five-year service obligation.
To answer any questions about the applications process, PHC is hosting two webinars that will provide an overview of the CalHealthCares requirements, deadlines and the application. Webinars will be held on:
Applications will be accepted from January 18 to February 12, 2021. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply by January 29 to take advantage of an early review period where the CalHealthCares team will review applications and provide feedback. From there, applicants will have the opportunity to take that feedback and improve upon their initial submission.
