CMA publishes guide for physicians impacted by wildfires

Area(s) of Interest: Practice Management

Currently, three California counties— Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura—are under a state of emergency due to the effects of the Camp, Hill and Woolsey wildfires, which destroyed homes and businesses, threatened critical infrastructure and caused the evacuation of residents.

To ensure physicians can continue to provide care to their patients, the California Medical Association (CMA) reached out to the major payors to understand whether they had relaxed any administrative requirements. We’ve compiled this information and published a guide to help physicians navigate these issues.

This guide includes information about whether payors are allowing patients to receive care from out-of-network providers; how to submit claims for those services; how to update a practice location; phone numbers for patients to call if they are experiencing difficulties refilling prescriptions, replacing medical supplies or obtaining access to care; and links with more information about other services each payor is offering and more.
