Coding Corner: Important differences between ICD-10 Excludes1 and Excludes2 notes

August 08, 2013

The transition from Medicare claims contractor Palmetto GBA to Noridian takes place on September 16, 2013 (Part B). Noridian Healthcare Solutions has been named the new Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Medicare Parts A and B in California, Nevada and Hawaii, as well as the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands (Jurisdiction E, previously called Jurisdiction 1).

To assist physicians through this transition, California Medical Association (CMA) has published a guide for physicians, “Medicare Transition Guide: What physicians need to know." The guide includes answers to the most commonly asked questions on the transition. It has recently been updated to include a Transition Preparation Checklist, to help physician practices prepare for the cutover to the new MAC.

CMA is also working closely with Noridian and Palmetto, to help ensure a smooth transition and to avoid many of the problems that were experienced with the last change in contractor. As part of this collaboration, Noridian recently presented an exclusive webinar for CMA members. The other web-based workshops Noridian is offering are open to all provider types in Jurisdiction E. The CMA-specific webinar gave attendees an opportunity to have their individual questions answered by Noridian representatives. If you were unable to attend the live webinar, it is now available on demand via the CMA Webinars page.
