Advocacy Opportunties

Impact

CMA has some of the best lobbyists, lawyers, and other advocates in the Capitol, but the most powerful weapon in advancing the cause of physicians and their patients is you.

Your background and expertise is needed in the development of policy and the impact of emerging laws and regulations in health care. We look for your participation to shape and promote legislation, engage in grassroots action, and connect with legislators and policymakers.

Below are ways that YOU can be a physician advocate and impact CMA's advocacy agenda and the future of Medicine in California.

  1. Know Your Power
Hearing from physicians with experience on the front lines of medicine in their community can make all the difference for a legislator contemplating a complicated health care issue.
  2. Be a Resource for Legislators and Policymakers
Advocate on behalf of the physician community and your patients by offering your expertise and experience. CMA’s grassroots advocates build relationships, receive action alerts and educate lawmakers and policymakers to ensure decisions are guided by medical experts.
  3. Attend CMA’s Legislative Advocacy Day
Join your colleagues in Sacramento for CMA's Legislative Advocacy Conference (held annually in April) to educate legislative leaders as champions for patients and the practice of medicine.
  4. Help Shape CMA Policy
Not enough time to serve on a council or committee? Members can still participate in the development of CMA policy by testifying quarterly on resolutions and reports.
  5. Author a Resolution
Members are encouraged to submit policy ideas for consideration by CMA councils and committees.
  6. Champion Health Equity
Support Health Equity initiatives, programs and events by engaging with the CMA Ethnic Medical Organization Section, PHC's Network of Ethnic Physicians Organizations (NEPO) and CMA's committee on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI).
  7. Become a Social Media Ambassador
Sign up to be a Social Media Ambassador and you will receive training, advice and content to help keep your colleagues and other medical professionals informed, connected and engaged online.
  8. Share Your Story
Sign up to become a Media Surrogate and you will receive media training, ghostwriting assistance and other media resources to share your powerful experiences and expertise with the public.
  9. Contribute to CALPAC
Support CMA’s political action committee to benefit state and federal candidates who share CMA's philosophy and vision.
  10. Run for Local Office
CALPAC can help you run for office to shape state and local government health care policy.
