Stop AB 876 – Protect Physician-Led Anesthesia Care

AB 876 (Flora) would allow certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to practice independently, without physician oversight, in hospitals, outpatient facilities, and dental offices across California.

This bill fundamentally changes how anesthesia care is delivered by removing critical safeguards and allowing non-physician practitioners to select and modify anesthesia plans, order diagnostic tests and direct care without the supervision of a physician.

Why This Matters

Physicians and CRNAs are both vital members of the anesthesia care team, but they are not interchangeable. Physician-led care ensures the highest level of safety, especially in high-risk, complex, or emergency situations. AB 876 undermines this team-based model and threatens the quality of care our patients rely on.

Take Action Today

The bill is headed to the Senate Business and Professions Committee, and your voice is needed to help stop it. Let legislators know that removing physician oversight is not reform—it’s a risk California patients can’t afford. Together, we can preserve physician-led, patient-centered care.

Below you will find a sample letter written from the physician perspective that you can submit with one click to urge a NO vote on AB 876.
