Physician Compensation Information to be Made Public - Vote No on AB 1404

AB 1404 was amended by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, to require a nonprofit sponsored healthcare entity to disclose a contracted physician’s personal compensation information to the Secretary of State for public inspection. It is unclear what the information would be used for and why it needs to be made public. Transparency for the sake of transparency provides no benefit to the public and violates the privacy of many providers throughout the state. AB 1404 flies in the face of current anti-trust laws which could encourage coordinated behavior to drive compensation down for healthcare providers and could also result in unfair competitive practices within the healthcare market.

It’s important that Legislators know that AB 1404 is a flawed piece of legislation that would drive physician compensation down and exacerbate California’s physician workforce shortage.
