Shannan Velayas is the Vice President of Strategic Communications overseeing public affairs, marketing, publications, graphic design, public relations, social media, messaging, website, mobile app and video production.

Ms. Velayas has close to 20 years of experience working in communications, government and legislative affairs. Most recently, Ms. Velayas served as communications director for Dr. Richard Pan, California State Senator and Chair of the Senate Health Committee, where she helped craft messaging to drive policy objectives. Prior to joining Dr. Pan’s office, Ms. Velayas served as press secretary for the California Secretary of State, was an aide to then-Assemblymember Mark Leno and worked on several legislative campaigns.  

The Center for Strategic Communications crafts and delivers the organization’s mission to members, health care stakeholders, media and the general public. The Center provides an internal and external resource through public affairs, media outreach, social media, video production and the development of marketing campaigns, newsletters, publications and webinars to effectively communicate the organization’s policy positions and strategic objectives.
