The state is establishing a new system to let people to receive a vaccine, and if not yet eligible, to register for a notification via email or text when they are eligible. That system is expected to launch the week of January 18, 2021. The local public health department or local county medical society may have additional information.

Enrollment in the local immunization registry is a prerequisite for participation in California’s COVID Vaccination program. If you are not yet registered in the local immunization registry (IIS), and intend to participate, enroll in your local IIS now. Additional information can be found here.

Can physician practices enroll in CalVax?

As of January 11, 2021, the following providers were invited to enroll in the state’s COVID vaccinate program: A site that has received an invitation code from their Local Health Department. General Acute Care Hospitals invited by the California Department of Public Health.As the vaccine supply increases, additional providers will be able to enroll. More information will be shared when enrollment is expanded.

What is CalVax?

CalVax is a state-wide centralized system for health care providers enrolled or interested in participating in the California COVID-19 Vaccination Program. A new CalVax platform will launch later in January 2021, and will provide a system to manage vaccine enrollment, ordering, inventory, administration, reporting and data analytics. Physicians are prioritized for vaccination in Phase 1a of the state’s vaccination program. Currently, due to the limited vaccine supply, the vaccine is only being distributed to a limited number of entities. Data from clinical trials suggest that Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is safe and likely effective in persons with evidence of a prior COVID-19 infection. Vaccination should be offered to persons regardless of history of prior symptomatic or asymptomatic COVID-19 infection. Testing to assess for prior infection solely for the purposes of vaccine decision-making is not recommended.
