TITLE: Director of Development

DIVISION: Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC)

REPORTS TO: Chief Strategy Officer 

OFFICE LOCATION: Sacramento

EXEMPTION STATUS: Exempt                      

SALARY RANGE: $70,000-$90,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer, this position will identify, develop and support funding opportunities for strategic initiatives that further PHC’s mission to improve community health, grow a diverse physician workforce, and promote health equity. Activities may include developing and executing projects, fund development, conducting research, and providing overall operational support for projects.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports Chief Strategy Officer in developing and securing funding for initiatives to promote health equity, community health, and diversity in the physician workforce.
  • Develops and executes against a strategic plan for identifying and securing funding for current and new PHC programs
  • Manages funding lifecycle, including identifying opportunities for funding, developing responses to RFPs/RFIs, contracting, reporting, and similar funding-related tasks
  • Proactively seeks diversified funding streams for: events (e.g., Health Equity Summit), programs (e.g., Graduate Medical Education Start Up Solutions), and services (e.g., Continuing Medical Education)
  • Tracks and researches emerging issues that offer opportunities for new programs or funding sources from both the public and private sectors
  • Identifies and executes on opportunities to promote/amplify PHC
  • Networks with external health care stakeholders

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with demonstrated development/fundraising experience from public and/or philanthropic sources
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Passion for solving some of California’s toughest health care challenges by supporting physicians, physicians-in-training, and those interested in serving in California’s underserved communities through the practice of medicine
  • Understanding of California’s health care ecosystem, especially as it relates to underserved communities, health care funding systems, access deserts, social determinants of health, medical education, etc.
  • Enthusiastic, entrepreneurial go-getter
  • Natural networker/dot-connector
  • A track record of mentorship and leadership promoting growth among junior staff
  • Ability to travel and occasionally work nights and weekends
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
