Business Development Coordinator, PHC

TITLE: Business Development Coordinator – Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC)

LOCATION: Sacramento                                                       

DIVISION: Physicians for a Healthy California

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt (Limited Term)                                             

REPORTS TO: President and CEO

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the full range of fund development activities for PHC and the California Medical Association’s continuing medical education (CME) program. These activities include researching grants and writing grants for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects; coordinating fundraising efforts; reporting to funders; as well as identifying, pursuing, planning and organizing CMA CME sponsored accredited activities. 


Grants Development, Writing & Management

  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations 
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources
  • Maintain current records, including grant tracking and reporting
  • Draft action plans to identify key initiatives and major milestones
  • Facilitates meetings with internal and external stakeholders  

Donor Stewardship

  • Provide stewardship to current donors, including providing regular written updates to donors
  • Track statistics relevant to development 

CME Joint Providership Development & Management

  • Identify and pursue CME accredited activities including joint providerships
  • Work with CMA CME team to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate CMA CME accredited activities
  • Document and track statistics regarding accredited CME activities


  • Bachelor’s degree or two years’ equivalent experience preferred
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising information sources
  • Experience with events planning and coordination
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal oriented with a high level of initiative as well as problem solving skills
  • Strong written communication skills: ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Strong verbal communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Performs well with minimum supervision
