REPORTS TO: PHC CEO

Position Summary: The Program Director directs and oversees the Physicians for A Healthy California (PHC) Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations (NEPO) program. This includes applying for and administering grants, implementing a strategic work plan, developing materials, report writing, and working with other PHC staff on overlapping issues. This position is also responsible for planning and executing the annual NEPO Summit. A key component of the position is networking with ethnic physician leaders, building collaborative relationships with community organizations and identifying resources to support NEPO.

About the Organization: NEPO is a program of the Physicians for A Healthy California (PHC) that brings together over 50 ethnic physician organizations from across California to address issues such as; health disparities, health care workforce diversity, and the social determinants of health. NEPO also works to support the work of member ethnic physician organizations. Established over 50 years ago, PHC is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public health, addressing health disparities and supporting medical student leadership, and is a subsidiary of the California Medical Association.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute the NEPO Summit, including; developing a conference program, identifying and securing presenters, managing event logistics, promoting the event, and working with the CEO on securing sponsors.
  • Develop, write, and administer grant-funded programs, including grant reports
  • Create and update NEPO program publications such as newsletters, web site, and education manuals
  • Provide staff support for steering, policy, strategic planning and other committees
  • Plan and execute regional meetings with current and potential NEPO ethnic physician organization members
  • Promote NEPO organization and activities
  • Maintain relationships with ethnic physician organizations
  • Communicate with funding agencies; maintain program key contacts
  • Represent NEPO in media, professional, or public events

Knowledge/Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least three years’ experience in the areas of community-based project management, public health, multicultural healthcare or community health
  • Experience with project design, implementation and management
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse range of health care related and community-based organizations and individuals
  • Strong background in capacity building, coalition building and network building
  • Ability to identify, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfort with fundraising and sponsorship development
  • Leadership and organizational skills
  • Experience with non-profit organizations and grant writing a plus

Some California travel required
